MGM GRAND LAS VEGAS RECEIVES MOST 2011 WINE SPECTATOR RESTAURANT WINE LIST AWARD IN COUNTRY FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR

8/18/2011

LAS VEGAS (August 18, 2011) – MGM Grand continues to be the industry leader for another year as Wine Spectator confirms an extraordinary number of wins for the hotel during the 2011 Wine Spectator Restaurant Wine List Awards. For the second consecutive year, an incredible 11 MGM Grand restaurants including Joël Robuchon Restaurant, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, Tom Colicchio’s Craftsteak, NOBHILL TAVERN by Michael Mina, SEABLUE by Michael Mina, Pearl, Shibuya and Fiamma Trattoria & Bar, Emeril’s New Orleans Fish House, Wolfgang Puck’s Bar & Grill and Diego garnered awards, more than any other property in the world.

“This incredible recognition from Wine Spectator is a testament to MGM Grand’s dedication to excellence,” said President & COO of MGM Grand Scott Sibella. “The talented restaurant teams, sommeliers and food and beverage professionals at MGM Grand continue to create and provide award-winning wine lists for our guests, ensuring that quality and selection are never compromised.”

MGM Grand Director of Wine Brian Weitzman said, “We have committed ourselves to maintaining excellence in our exemplary wine program. Our team of 14 sommeliers and 10 certified sake sommeliers—the most at any property in the country—strive to offer the best experience for wine novices and experts, alike.”

Considered one of the culinary world’s most prestigious honors, Wine Spectator’s Restaurant Wine List Awards recognize restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections that complement their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine enthusiasts. Going above and beyond yet again, Joël Robuchon Restaurant’s wine program received top honors and “three glasses” with The Grand Award, Wine Spectator’s most distinguished award, requiring restaurants to show an “uncompromising, passionate devotion to the quality of their wine program.” In total, MGM Grand restaurants amassed an astonishing 19 “glasses” setting it far apart from the competition for the second year running.

To qualify for an award, each restaurant’s wine list must follow strict standards and provide an extensive amount of information, including vintages and appellations for all bottles and wines by the glass. Everything from complete producer names to overall presentation is considered. If they are selected, restaurants are granted one of three awards – The Grand Award (“three glasses”), The Best of Award of Excellence (“two glasses”) or the Award of Excellence (“one glass”).

Known for its dedication to personalized, attentive wine service, MGM Grand caters to a variety of palates, occasions and budgets. Approximately 52,000 bottles of wine are housed within the walls of MGM Grand, representing 4,710 wine labels and 156 selections available by the glass.
